That’s how long New York City pharmacy owner Priyank Patel says it used to take each time a patient’s medication was either not covered by a benefits plan or was found to be prohibitively expensive. “Twenty minutes is an eternity in our business, where literally every second counts” says Patel, who owns three pharmacies, one in the Bronx and two in Yonkers.

Patients are assured of receiving the medications they need, and no longer have to worry about excessive costs. And another benefit? Patel’s pharmacies’ dispensing rates are significantly higher, since staff spend less time navigating prior approval processes and negotiating with prescribers’ offices and payers.
